Cold bottom, hot seats

It's a dark and stormy night. Polly Line (still in one piece if you wondered) wants some new chairs for her livingroom and goes to Spook House and her good friend Karl Edo to see if he has something for her. His style's usually too glamorous for her, so she don't really expect to find anything, but on the other hand she's very pleased with the sofa from Annina she bought from him last year. Shivering, she hurries inside.

Karl Edo has actually just received a package of Arne Jacobsen furniture from the Danish company Minimii, and is happy to see Polly Line.

Polly Line already has a purple Arne Jacobsen egg chair, but is thrilled to see a lime green swan chair in the shop. She has to try it out at once!

While sitting in the swan chair she spots some seven chairs she really likes too.
But she doesn't like the price just as much, they're quite expensive.
Being the salesman he is, Karl Edo flips one chair to show her how well these chairs are made and explains that they'll last much longer than cheaper copies.

More photos of the Spook House interior.

Credits: The lip picture on the wall is a postcard from callsmall. The lip sofa is made by me in polymer clay. The large lamp, the ballclock and the lego table underneath it are also made by me. Arne Jacobsen swan and seven chairs by Minimii. Accessories are mostly re-ment and Elisabeth Causeret. Moon lamp, Karl Edo's sweater and mini mini seven chair by Cocco.

Thank you Betsy. I got the poster from callsmall last year, but didn't have green furniture to go with it until now, but the poster was the inspiration for this scene.
Polly Line's actually wearing a jacket from a lil'bratz doll. And of course she bought something, you just wait and see what :-)

Thank you Rosanna, I know a few shops that are quite similar to Spook House, and I love them too:-)

Dearie, I too love Polly's new clothes. She made Khaki chic for winter! Am I spotting some eyeliner on Karl?? Very designer! :):) And Indian dancer :):)>

I don't supposed you have received my package. It's been a month?

I have missed your emails . You must write and tell me how you did the Halloween post, ok?

Also, I really love these stories about shopping to decorate the house with the designer chairs :).Especially when he turned the chair over...hehe

Such gorgeous stuff! Love the lips poster.

I too love Karl Edos shop and the new chairs are really great. Good to know they have designer-chairs in "our" scale too. But not very affordable for me at the moment. I enjoy that you have them, that must be enough :-)
I think it's great what a good salesman Karl Edo is. Nowadays the shopowners aren't very often so wise to show the things they want to sell in a good way. In fact they sometimes give me the feeling I'm disturbing...So congratulations in his skills and good feeling.

Of course I'm curious now, what she will buy at last.

Greetings from Germany

Not knowing what a DKK was 'worth' I nearly had a heart attack at the prices on Minimii and thought perhaps Polly Line had won Lotto but when I did the exchange calcuation I was pleasantly surprised ($A36 looks much better than 199 DKK!!) Certainly their products are just fabulous.

Hi, dear Sans, I have missed you while we were both away!
I think Karl Edo must have been born with that eyeliner, we have never seen him without it, infact, before we knew his name, we just called him the eyeliner man :-)

I'm very sorry to say I haven't received you package :-( Such a shame, since you had made things there yourself! And I will write you an e-mail soon, telling yoy all you want to know about scary Halloween posts, and I have great news too, I just must get through all the comments first :-)

Thanks Pan, I love the lip poster too, the postcard from callsmall was the base for the whole scene!

Thanks Oese, I know what you mean. I think the same about the great miniature design furniture made in the US. Since postage is so expensive from the states I thought I would concentrate on European design instead! And these chairs are really great, I have already ordered more as an early Christmas present :-)

Karl Edo was very glad to hear your praise, and we both agree, good salesmen or -women are a rare breed these days, so it's very nice when you come across some of them! And a good salesman can sell a lot, so I'm sure Polly Line didn't go home empty-handed :-)

Thanks Norma! For me it's the other way around, Danish kroner is worth a little bit more than Norwegian kroner, but it's easy to forget since they both are kroner :-) But the chairs are worth every dime/cent/krone, I just love the quality of the items. I'm just a little bit puzzled by the fact that they are marketed as childrens toys. I wouldn't allow small children to get near them because of the fine detailing.

Ha ha! Now THAT is a catchy title!
The chair ar MAVHALOUS! Goint to check out Minimii. Too funny Norma!
199! I'll take six. xo C

Thanks C, but I can't take credit for the title, it was hubby's idea, he makes better headlines than me :-)

Minimii's furniture is absolutely collector worthy, I have already ordered four more of the swan chairs in different colours.

Thanks so much for your 'blog birthday' congratulations, as it happens my 'birthday' post was my 90th :)

I sent you an email a couple of days ago re confirming colouring etc for the little divan, please check your Inbox :) If it's not there maybe it's gone into your Junk. Look forward to hearing from you shortly so that I can get the furniture factory into action.

Hi, I'm Helen from Ireland. I saw this blog, and am thrilled to find it! I just bought a Triang dolls house from the 1960's on Saturday, and want to find some 1:16 furniture to place into it. I don't want to furnish it with the original plastic furniture the was used by children at that time. Instead, I am going to theme each room to a different 20th century era, artist or designer - Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the bedroom; Salvador Dali (love the Lips sofa!) for the lounge; and '60's 'PopArt' for the kitchen. The Arne Jacobson chairs and table would be perfect for the kitchen!!

Would you have any suggestions where I could get some kitchen cabinets etc in 1:16 scale? Your photos are fantastic, by the way :-)

Belated YAY!!! on this post! What eye candy! I am so glad the lips card has come in handy...and it works great! I really love just about everything in here, but I profess a fondness for the mini Seven chair paired with the stunning vases. The wallpaper is perfect, too. Of course, I am dying to know what Polly bought! ;)

Hi Helen and thank you for your nice comment. I love the theme idea of yours, I have done something similar in many rooms myself, Karl Edo Spook has an art deco/Tamara de Lempicka inspired bedroom and also turned his livingroom into a pop art inspired room for a summer party. I love Mackintosh, he was a huge inspiration for me when I designed a stained glass window for my real life livingroom.

All my kitchens are made by Lundby, they also have a modern one in wood, which I have bought, but not yet posted pictures of.
The best miniature kitchen maker in Europe is probably Elf miniatures http://www.elfminiatures.co.uk/

She doesn't normally work in 1:16, but she says on her website she can make furniture in that scale as well. I think my next kitchen will probably be one of hers :-) Most of other stuff are Lundy, new or vintage found on ebay, or re-ment stuff. I also make a few things myself, like the lip sofa made of fimo, happy to hear you liked it!

Good luck, hope you will start blogging about your Triang house or post pictures of it in Flickr. In any case let me know!

Thanks callsmall, a belated response here, I guess you know the reason why, Kristiane has just left the building(s) :-) And of course I don't expect you to comment on all my posts, but because of the postcard I had to make sure you had seen this one :-)

I know that people have already commented on the poster, but I have to add my love--I love how a poster became the inspiration for the entire piece-and the lips sofa! Fantastic!

Pubdoll said...

Thanks Amy, as you may have read, I love this postcard and I often get inspiration for a whole room from a single piece. The inspiration for Karl Edo's art deco-like bedroom came from the sheet of paper I used as wallpaper in that room.

Dear Helene, I am very late commenting, though I have looked at this post several times. I love the first photo of Polly Line going in to the shop. The lighting is fantastic, it feels so much like a cold winter's day, dull outside, with brightly lit shops.
Love Polly Line's outfit too, I bet they look much better on her than on a lil'bratz! And Karl Edo's shop is wonderful, as always - but for me, it's the first photo that makes this story so rich :-)
(Congrats to Trond on the title, too!)

Pubdoll said...

Thanks Rebecca, I know exactly how it is, I often like to view a post and keep it in my head for a while before I comment.
For Trond and me that first photo made much of the story too, as well as Trond's headline :-) She leaned so much forwards on the photo, it looked like she was really cold and was eager to come inside :-) Spook House has "natural" Lundby lights, but the lights in Gjengangere second-handshop are ledlight. I think the cold light from the led suits a shop where everything is cheap, even the lighting :-)

Hei! Forvirret... : s xD

Pubdoll said...

Hei Ingerid!

I just found your lovely blog and like your style very much. I have only one 1:16 scale dollhouse ( Lundy Lisa ) and furnishing it little by little. I´m considering hard for buying those Minimii´s Swan chairs. They are quite pricey... but don´t like the idea to buy a copy. Is the leg of the the chair made from metal?

And welcome to visit my blog: Estella´s House. Estella´s house is a 1:12 scale house which I´m building and furnishing.
